Hi Jonathan – Here are some photos of the two largest Cats from last Friday (35lb 6oz and 34lb 4oz). Both taken on popped up double lobworm baits on a size 2 hook – popped up about 12 in off the bottom. Also had fish of 22b, 21lb, 19lb, 18lb, 15lb and two about 9 or 10lbs. Most were on double worm baits but also had some of the smaller ones late on on large chunks of flavoured meat as I ran out of worms. I also tried a couple of casts on large halibut pellets but I didn‘t get a run on those. All the Cats were all in a small spot of about 20 ft square at the top end of the lake half way between pegs 11 and 12. There was a huge amount of bubbles and disturbance there all day so it was clear there were a lot of fish in the one small area. I started fishing about 9.00am and I didn’t get a bite for about an hour and then had a run and that was the 34b Cat which I was made up with. I didnt really think I would get any more but from about 11.30 until 3.30 they went mad. I had to fish with slack lines so that the line rested on the bottom as I started to get loads of false line bites. I have done a lot of Catfish fishing over the years but I have never had a day like that before – in fact I had never caught a Catfish in December until now! I suppose the mild weather has meant they are still active. All the fish looked in really good condition.
Also attached is a barbel photo (9lbs) from the Rotherwas stretch of the Wye on Saturday. The river was very very high but it was the wind that made the fishing quite difficult. Let me know – Phil
