Stock Pool Open - 18th July 2010

The rain stayed off after a whole week of much needed down pour, only to sprinkle the heads partially this fine sunday in minute intervals. Actually was a perfect day for fishing, and nice to see new faces taking part.

Ronnie Ord, completed a superb weekend "double",after snatching victory the day before on the Snake, by winning this Open with a fantastic net of fish. The Liverpudian worked relentless to bag up, closely followed by Phil Mason who went over the ton mark too.

Residents Match 13th July - 2010

It was a miserable day. Drizzel and rain all day. Participation measured by the fact that the bar was half full at lunch time! what does that tell you? Poor Malc on peg 1 had to weigh everyone in at 4pm and he looked like a drowned rat, but getting the weighing sheet wrong is no excuse! Even though the weather was appauling and cold for that matter, it fished well. Only 10 fished, which is no real surprise after seeing the weather forecast!

Well done to Leeds maestro - Gaz. Who won the quiz single handedly the night previous then went on to beat match champ & favourite Big Joe. Shame his car didnt start after though!

  1. Gary Vollans - 73-10-00 Peg 10
  2. G Holdcroft - 68-2-00 Peg 12

  2. Rich Thompson - 27-3-00 Peg 38
  3. Phil Hoad - 25-6-00 Peg 26

Ladies Members Match - 3rd July 2010 - Stock Pool

A lovely day for a match. Nice and warm and very dry with no wind. Great to see a dozen or so ladies come down and show the men show to do it with style! It fished brilliantly, as it has all year really.

Well done to Rae, who only picked up a rod for the first time the week before. She friggled out of evening telemarketing sessions at the bank to practise every evening and it paid off! How about this too....she had no kit so had to borrow all the equipment from her Bank Manager! Sixty eight pounds is a superb weight.

Stock pool is float only - Rae caught 3 sections out on small pieces of hair rigged meat, feeding very regularly.

Afterwards everyone a superb BBQ, all laid on by Bozward snrs. So regardless of performance, everyone had a bite! Some say it was the best Ladies match ever...See you next year Docklow Dollies?

  1. Rae Davis - Peg2 - 68-6-00
  2. Pam Mason - Peg 15 - 60-2-00
  3. Pauline Jones - Peg 6 - 53-4-00

  3. Barry Smith 1-8 Docklow Dazzler

All tried for big barbel on the pellet, it never happened. Maggot or caster on the waggler would have been the best approach for chub and dace. It had fished brilliantly the day before with residents who fish the rivers regularly. Stick to the lakes lads!
But well done Steve. All that moaning paid off with 3 lucky chub!

 Snake Open 5th June 2010

Open every Saturday on Snake. Draw 9.30am. Another fantastic match on the snake. Plenty quality Ide, Roach and chublets coming out. Sun was shining so lads mostly caught in the shade. Key note; the Snake has a habit of having a "siesta" between 1 and 2pm then coming back on later. Some anglers back off because they think theyre over feeding but Ron continued to feed as noraml and kept the fish coming. The weight proved that. Excellent!

  1. Ronnie Ord - 33-4-00
  2. Richie Thompson - 23-10-00
  3. Bernie Radnor - 17-3-00

Well done lads. Pictures & Video highlights of the weigh in on facebook

Coppers vs Robbers - The Revenge - May 28th 2010

After last nights quiz the chaps decided to seek revenge in their Annual match which this year was on the Stock Pool. This replaced the normal Thursday Open. Match was 3 hours only, and the lads fished really well considering the fish are spawning and most hadnt got poles. Some Pictures & Video too on Facebook

Robbers win... just! (Dont ask where the names came from!)

Residents Match - 25th May 2010

Our first residents match of 2010, was well supported by our guests, even though most hadnt planned to fish the match, and brought a keep net. Therefore in true Docklow spirit, a number were begged and borrowed. Personally speaking, it was an enjoyable fun day with great company. Nothing too serious. The fish were clearly spawning across the lake which was a disadvantage in some respects, but a hard days fishing is better than a days work! The reeds and islands were being battered in the sunshine which added to some frustration and banter yet was a sight to behold. There is a super group of people here this week which made it even more enjoyable. Fished 10am till 4pm. JB

  1. Colin James = 36-8-00 Peg 14. Chopped worm and caster. Broke 6 times!
  2. Neil Edwards = 33-8-00 Peg 24. Cracking net of silvers and nice carp
  3. Colin Taylor = 31-6-00 Peg 5. Air rigged Meat on bomb to the island
  4. Ian Kennedy = 30-00-00 Peg 10
  5. Andy Halsall = 24-10-00 Peg 8.
  6. Jonathan Bozward = 23-12-00 Peg 1. Fishing Pole to left hand margin on corn, and meat. 3 great tench on bread flake. Broke 6 times too Col!
  7. Linda Billington = 21-12-00 Peg 30.
  8. Steve Hobbs = 17-7-00 Peg 3
  9. Peter = 11-6-00 Peg 21. Mostly silvers
  10. Chris Billington = 11-00-00 Peg 16

Stock Pool Open - Sunday 23rd May 2010

Even though the sun was baking down across the country, and most tried to find some shade to hide away, anglers still attended the now popular open on the Stock Pool. The matches recently on here have all been close, which makes it more exciting and Sundays was no different.Top three results:

  1. Jon = 61-8-00
  2. Richie Thompson = 55-4-00
  3. Colin James = 45-4-00

* All 20 pegs have been booked already for Sunday 30th May. Because the results have been so good, a top tip is book your place in advance if you want to fish this match.

Midland Stockholders Club match - Match Pool 22nd May 2010

Snake Open - Saturday 22nd May 2010

The first silver fish Open on the "Snake" of 2010 fished really well. The weather was a scrocher! So hot, and the most of the fish were basking on the surface. Teams of Three Open - Saturday 15th May 2010

The weather changed into a beautiful day at Docklow. No nasty north wind, just warm sunshine and not a ripple on the lakes. The match was well attended, which was good to see. Inevitabley the Welsh lads came up and took the money and glory once again. But thank you and well done to everyone who took part. It was another smashing weekend, with great company....

Ten teams took part, thats 30 anglers fishing. Pools used were Match, Jack & Stock. Teams were allowed to draw pegs then choose which of their team fished that lake. One point for a win, 10 for last. Lowest points scoring team wins.

Docklow Pools - "Jacko" Invitational Annual Festival

The Docklow Invitational "Jacko" Festival has just finished here at Docklow Pools (24th April to 1st May),and its been a brilliant week. This is the only festival we run here, and has been going for over 20 years + in the quieter part of the season. We close purposely for this only. There are no crack anglers just "good" anglers who enjoy Docklow.

The total amount of fish caught was over 7600lbs! including the Snake which is a Silver fish venue pretty much. The Jack produced the best results which for those who fish it regularly wont be too surprised. The Stock pool confirmed that its now one of County's if not countrys premier match venues. And the Match pool size of the lumps caught was tremendous. Mostly commons too. The Snake tested the skill, and proved that its a quality venue for pole anglers. The same festival last year produced 3654lbs, and that was regarded as great!

The weather changed significantly from the beautiful sunshine of Monday to a down pour on Thursday....but the weights continued to be good!

The match result on the Jack was broken by Terry Wade of Essex with 144lbs!

Results are below. Ignore my effort! I could give you a world of excuses! but taking part is important. Our congratulations go to Dave Jack jnr, who flew through the Ash from Canada to support his dads annual fun festival. All that traveling was worth the effort. Well done!

Most of the big weights were caught on pole tactics down the margin, with sweetcorn seeming to be the top bait this year. Although a lot of guys did well on, meat, chopped worm an caster. 42 of 50 had over 100lbs in the 4 days!

Average weight including Snake was 37lb per angler per day!

Matchmen or not, its great to see lots of good results across the board from top to bottom.

Name                      Day 1             Day 2                 Day 3                 Day 4                 Overall

  1. Dave Jack Jnr - Jack 64-8.  Match 71-2.   Snake 16-8.   Stock 114-11.   265-8lbs
  2. Steve Mould - Jack 46-4.  Match 67-11.  Snake 21-3.  Stock 88-1.  222-10lbs
  3. Ronnie Ord - Snake 17-15.  Stock 62-10.  Jack 67-6. Match 91-5. 237lbs
