Big Chub Members Match - 23rd January 2010
Match lake had been frozen over for nearly 6 weeks, with the ice extremely thick in places. Recorded temperatures down to minus 20 so no real wonder.
Thanks to Wayne, Graham, Johnny "redbeard", Jonathan and of course Mick Sweetman (who went the extra mile) to break the ice and make the pool available for the weekends match. Because of the drifting ice, we had to use the Mickey Mouse too which isnt really appropriate as its kept purposely as a day ticket water.
18 anglers fished.
The Trophy goes to Mr Richard Thompson with the biggest chub at 3lbs - his first Docklow trophy. Well done and congratulations
The match winner was Mr Eric Davis - 57lbs of silvers from peg 8 on Mickey Mouse

The those of us who continue to take part year after year with the dream of one day taking glory, take heart. Sir Bob as he's called in these parts, put the big boys to the sword and stole the show with a superb days winter fishing. All on the waggler. He doesnt even own a pole! Congratulations.
Even though it was another cold day, the lake fished well and one can see from the results. Thanks to all those who supported this members match. Your support is appreciated.

Held this year on the Mickey Mouse lake. Five hour match, on pegs 7 & 8.
Winner Simon Fry = 94lbs
Runner up Ian Didcote = 75lbs

Yet again another year, and another carp match goes by.
This years match was fished in reasonably good weather, although the long dry spell broke almost to the minute of starting the draw for pegs. I guess some of us should have taken this as an omen!!!
Unlike last years match we had a clear first place leader from day one. Rob Bufton set us a very hard target to beat. It became clear that his secret for success was - Exceptional skill, and using bait that had been retrieved from the bonfire. How’s that for recycling? He also took the Saturday morning off from the match to go to work!!! Well done Rob.
2nd and 3rd place became the only closely contended position with only 3oz separating Graham and Nick Higham. I suggest that next year Graham prepares the Sunday lunches from the lakes as their fortunes changed in the final hours of the match.
Well done Colin 4th place. Good result considering having the heaviest fish caught during the match disallowed. The carp match does have rules!! Who Knew?
5th place went to John(Redbeard)McAvoy Well done John. You got the match figured out this year. 12 months of studying pictures of fish helped distinguish the difference between Bream and Carp. Would you loan the fish picture to me and Nick Aubrey please?
6th place and unfortunately outside of the payout Neil.
The rest of us failed to catch a carp although Nick Aubrey did have an incredible bag of bream . Nice to see you back again Nick.
A Spring match may be possible next year. Around March time. Any one interested? Let me Know.

24 anglers fished the latest silver fish open at Docklow Pools. Eric Davies was again top rod with 29lb 3oz off peg 38 on the recently revamped Snake Lake. Docklow regular Ron Ord was just pipped by Davies by 3oz with a fine net of chub, barbel, ide, crucian, perch, roach, bream and Tench to tip the scales at 29lb.

With only 4lb separating Darren Davies and Grant Albutt going into Day 2, the scene was set for Docklow Pools' Match Lake to host a classic battle for the Match Fishing Cup. Big bags of roach from Day 1 weren't option on this lake so tune into the video to see how both anglers tackled Day 2 and see who walked off with the prestigious trophy.
